Everything good seems to start with food, music, and friends. Conecuh Sausage is an Alabama treasure that has impacted the southeast and beyond. A taste that is undeniably off the chain fantastic! I grew up on Conecuh. I was playing in a charity golf tournament with my close friend George Sellers and we approached the 1st tee and we could smell the taste coming off the grill. It was going to be a good day regardless of how we played. So, fast forward to a jingle I wrote for Conecuh Sausage called, “Get your Grill On”, eight seasons of entertaining and hosting a television show, and countless events that led me to becoming a brand representative for the best company on the planet!…. It has been nothing short of amazing. I love sharing the love of Conecuh and meeting new friends along the way.
One of the by-products of this job has been the people you meet and the friendships you share over the years.
As most of you know who follow me, the joy of working with friends in the entertainment business as well as amazing people in the BBQ Foodie world like Carl “the cook” Lewis and being a regular guest on the legendary “John Boy and Billy Show” are highlights on the journey. We traveled the southeast as far as Dallas, TX performing and sharing the love of music, food and meeting unforgettable people. While headlining the World Food Championships we even penned the song “Eat it Up” for the event itself. This part of the journey has forged many friendships with pitmasters, chefs and cooks. Bringing people together, one bite, one song, and one event at a time.
Recently my journey took me down a path that opened my eyes even more. What started out as a simple way of contribution during the tough times of Covid, has become a passion.
When all of the normal entertainment/food/music festivals and venues were canceled, I made a phone call to check on a friend who happens to be a Fire Chief. That call gave me a purpose, and it has forever changed my life and given me a new appreciation for a profession that I believe is a calling.
So, during those first four years I traveled the southeast as far as Texas sharing the love of Conecuh Sausage, saying thank you, and becoming educated on what our 1st Responders have to do to protect and serve our communities. Even as other events were being scheduled after things got back to normal, I continued the journey with our 1st Responders. We continue to document this part of what we do and we want to do our part to shed light and support the heart of our communities.
You may have also noticed we (Me and Carl “the cook” Lewis”) started a thing called “Gatin & Grillin” last year with the Bama Tailgate show. Many of you were pretty excited about it, so we are taking that to another level this year! It’s all about the culture and passion of tailgating and we look forward to sharing more with you this season!
